Batteries are prone to generate heat because lithium ions constantly move inside, sending and receiving electricity. The thermal pad is located between the battery module and the external heat sink of the pack and transfers the battery's heat outside so that it does not accumulate and lead to accidents.
Because thermal pads must safely release heat to the outside without conducting electricity, they require high thermal conductivity, high electrical insulation, high heat resistance that withstands deformation, and flame retardancy that does not burn in fire. LG Chem has two types of thermal pad products: acrylic and silicone.
